Our Labour TENS Hire service has 3 steps:
1) Booking
When you book your Elle Tens Plus Labour Tens Hire online, you will be asked to choose your hire duration and select the start date.
Our 8 week hire is recommended for peace of mind to cover you through the most common weeks you could go into labour, plus a little extra to get it back to us in time. We recommend selecting a date to begin the hire period roughly a month before your baby's due date. We'll send the TENS to arrive on or as close as possible to the date you selected to begin your hire period, then you can pop it back in the prepaid return post satchel when it is due back 8 weeks later.
The 4 week hire option is available for those who are due soon. For those who select the 4 week hire option ahead of time, we recommend selecting a hire period start date at least 2 - 3 weeks before your baby's due date and we will schedule the machine to arrive on or as close as possible to that date.
2) Your Hire Period
Unlike other companies, we ship your hire our in advance for it to arrive on or as close to your hire date as possible. When your TENS arrives, familiarise yourself with the unit and it's accessories. We recommend having a trial run after 37 weeks gestation to make sure you are ready when you go into labour.

3) Returning
We will send you a friendly email reminder when your Elle Tens Plus is due back. When it is time to return the TENS, place the TENS and accessories into the pre-addressed Australia Post envelope and drop it at an Australia Post facility. We will confirm via email when we have received it.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
When during my labour do I use it?
Midwives recommend using the TENS as soon as contractions become regular. This is likely to be before the contractions are really painful, but don't hold on to the tens for later when you are feeling uncomfortable! It will work better if you begin to use it earlier rather than later, giving those pain-fighting endorphins time to build with the strength of your contractions.
I am due really soon, do you have machines available and how long will it take to get to me?
The calendar on the booking page will display the current availability of hires and is based on the earliest possible date we could realistically get a hire to you. Usually we try and send machines a little earlier to arrive before the start date of the booking, but we are sometimes impacted by situations beyond our control such as nationwide stock shortages or delivery disruptions with Australia Post. It looks like I will go overdue, can I extend my hire?
Absolutely, we are happy to extend the hire period by 2 weeks or 4 weeks and you can do that through our Labour Hire Extension. Just add to cart and purchase and we will automatically extend your hire period from the day it ends, not the day you purchase so if need me you can sort it out ahead of time.
I have lost my return post parcel, what do I do?
Unfortunately the return post parcel provided with the Labour TENS Hire once lost is non-refundable, so you will need to purchase a new one at Australia Post (or you are welcome to wrap it yourself) and pay for postage. Please post to;

It is important that you put your name and address details on the back of the parcel otherwise we won't know who has returned their machine.
Can I use the tens machine with water?
You cannot use the tens machine in the bath or shower as the machine uses electrical pulses to stimulate your nervous system. However the tens can be used safely with any other pain relief method or medication. If you would like to use water as a part of your birth plan, we recommend using the TENS during early labour and progressing to water later, especially if you want to have a water birth.
Will my electrode pads stay sticky?
The electrode pads provided are designed to be re-usable, meaning you can take them off and then reapply them. Just be sure to pop them back onto the film they arrived attached to when you are not wearing them. Residual oil or moisture on your skin will start to erode the stickiness of your pads, so if you are in and out of the shower several times, or sweating, make sure to dry your back completely before reapplying.
You can 'revive' the stickiness of your pads by brushing over with a damp fabric cloth. Additional electrode pads are also available for purchase.
If I don't use my TENS, can I have a refund?
We understand that babies and birth are always unpredictable! If your TENS hasn't been sent out yet, you can let us know to cancel your order and receive a full refund. However, since the Labour TENS Hire is a service, if there is no issue with a faulty machine or delay in postage if you choose not to use the machine or are unable to use it, we have provided the service and therefore cannot provide refunds.

For your hands only! During an intense contraction my husband tried to help by pushing the boost button for me… but he pressed the power button instead, turning the machine off.
The murderous feeling of rage that overcame me at that moment probably best summarises how much the Tens was helping work through the pain. Would certainly recommend it!!
Super easy hire, effective pain relief I loved that we were given a prepaid parcel to send back the Tens machine. It meant my partner could drop it off at our local post office and I didn’t need to leave the house. I’ve used a TENS machine for both of my two children and it’s really helped to distract from the pain of contractions. Would highly recommend!

Must have for labour This is the second time I’ve hired a TENS from bliss birth for labour. This one saw me through an induced labour with no epidural and is a must have item. The hiring process is super straightforward and stress free. 100% recommend.
A great helping hand The TENS machine I hired from Bliss Birth helped me get through early labour pain at home and at the hospital prior to pain relief being administered. It provided a good distraction during contractions & also helped when I had back pain a week or so before going into labour. The delivery of the TENS was quick, so I received it in time even though I ordered late (on a friends recommendation). The returns process was easy too.

Unmedicated second birth using the Bliss Birth Tens Machine Firstly the hire process was super easy and arrived well within time. I started using the Tens as soon as I felt my first contractions. While it didn’t take the pain away it definitely distracted me from it. I was able to breathe through my contractions for the whole labour before taking it off and birthing my baby into the water. I achieved the intervention free, unmedicated birth of my dreams. Felt so empowering. Thank you!

Excellent product and service! The machine came quickly and was packed up in a nice bag with clear instructions. If it wasn’t for this machine I don’t know if I’d of managed to do a natural birth. Really helped distract from the contractions!
24 hours unmedicated with TENS Out of my 29 hour labour, 24 of those hours were unmedicated and all my pain was managed with the TENS machine. The machine became a comfort to help me through each contraction, taking the severe edge off the pain. I did end up with an epidural, oxytocin drip and antibiotics when the labour ticked over the 24 hour mark to minimise risk of infection that comes with a longer labour. But the TENS machine got my so far and I cannot recommend it highly enough for birth!

Fabulous, would 100% recommend If in doubt, just grab one anyway! After mixed reviews about laboring with a tens machine I was on the fence about getting one. It wasn’t until my midwife strongly encouraged me to that I came across Bliss Birth & decided to rent one “just in case” & i’m so glad I did! It arrived on time, was beautifully packaged (like new, even my midwife was impressed at the quality!) & did the job beautifully! I wouldn’t labour without one & will 100% be renting a tens machine again through Bliss Birth for my next labours & will encourage my friends and family to do the same when the time comes. Lovely product I used the comb through the early stages and on the way to hospital. Whether it helped reduce pain I can’t say, but it gave me something else to focus on, and while contractions came fast in the car it was certainly helpful. I’d use it again.

Wonderful service and fabulous tool for labour It was so straightforward to hire and return the TENS machine. A fully addressed return satchel was included along with spare electrodes.
